John Lewis Westgate, Oxford

Our directors played a key historical role in delivering 125,000 square feet of sales space for John Lewis as part of the Westgate Centre redevelopment in Oxford. The project required a high level of coordination with both the developer and main contractor, particularly given the constrained city-centre environment.

The Westgate Centre brought new retail and leisure space to Oxford, along with integrated car parking, enhancing connections between the existing high street and the new development. It significantly boosted the city’s retail offering, introducing a number of new brands to the region—most notably John Lewis, which served as an anchor tenant.

This was the second major John Lewis project our directors were involved in, following earlier success in Leeds. Working closely with John Lewis’ professional team, they supported the design and pricing process, adapting to ongoing changes to ensure the most effective and efficient solutions were delivered.

The store spans three sales floors—ground, upper ground, and first—and includes a rooftop restaurant. Delivered over a 29-week programme, the project included phased handovers, with a key milestone at week 20 when space was transferred to shopfitters to begin fitting out the various concession areas within the store.
